Ruto
Terms of Use
Last updated 19 September 2026
Ruto is a navigation app made by Minetek Systems Inc. These terms cover the app, this website and Ruto Pro. By using Ruto you agree to them.
Drive first, navigate second
Ruto gives directions. You drive the vehicle. Road signs, signals, lane markings, the instructions of police and road workers, and what you can see through the windscreen always come before anything the app shows or says.
- Set your destination before you move, or have a passenger do it.
- Maps, speed limits, lane guidance, traffic, hazard reports and camera locations come from third parties and from other drivers. They can be out of date, incomplete or wrong.
- A route is a suggestion. If a manoeuvre looks unsafe, illegal or impossible, do not make it; Ruto will find another way.
- Routing for an RV or a motorcycle prefers roads that suit the vehicle you described. It is not a guarantee of clearance, weight limits or legal access. Obey posted restrictions.
- Speed-camera and hazard alerts are there to help you drive attentively within the law. Whether such alerts may be used is a matter of local law, and following it is your responsibility.
What is free and what is Ruto Pro
Turn-by-turn navigation, hazard alerts and reporting, search, what3words addresses and your trip receipts are free. Ruto Pro is an optional purchase that adds the features listed on the pricing section of this site and on the plans screen in the app. We may add features to either side over time; we will not move a feature you have paid for out of Pro during a period you have already paid for.
Subscriptions, trials and one-time passes
Purchases are made through the store you installed Ruto from — Apple's App Store or Google Play — and are charged to your account with that store. We never see your payment details.
- Free trial. The yearly plan may begin with a free trial for new subscribers. You are not charged during the trial. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, the plan starts and the store charges the yearly price.
- Renewal. The Monthly, Road-trip Pass (every 3 months), Yearly and Family plans renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.
- Cancelling. Cancel any time in your store account: on iPhone, Settings › your name › Subscriptions; on Android, Google Play › Payments and subscriptions › Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. After you cancel, Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
- Lifetime. A one-time purchase that does not renew. It gives Pro for as long as Ruto is offered on that store.
- Family. On the App Store the Family plan is shared through Apple's Family Sharing. Google Play does not offer subscription sharing, so the Family plan is not sold there.
- Your price. The price you subscribed at is the price you keep for as long as that subscription stays active. A new price applies only to new subscribers.
- Refunds. Refunds are decided and paid by the store that took the payment, under its own policy. Ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com or Google through your Google Play order history.
Ruto has no accounts. A purchase belongs to your store account, and "Restore purchases" in the app brings it back on a new phone or after a reinstall, on the same store.
What you send us
If you report a hazard, you allow us to show that report to other drivers and to remove it when it is stale or wrong. Report only what you have actually seen, and never while the vehicle is moving unless a passenger does it. Deliberately false reports are a reason to stop accepting reports from an installation.
If you share a trip, anyone holding the link can see your position and arrival time until the share ends. Who you send it to is your decision. The details are in the Privacy Policy.
Fair use
Ruto is for personal navigation. Do not copy the app's map or routing data in bulk, probe or overload our servers, take the app apart to build a competing service, or use it to break the law. We may limit or block an installation that does.
Availability
Ruto keeps working through signal loss by design, but no service runs perfectly. Coverage, traffic, search and map data depend on networks and providers outside our control, and features may change or be withdrawn. Ruto currently covers the United States.
No warranty
Ruto is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, Minetek Systems Inc makes no warranties, express or implied, including of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted operation.
Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Minetek Systems Inc is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for fines, penalties, missed appointments, vehicle damage or tolls arising from use of the app. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Ruto Pro in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms removes rights that the law of your state does not allow to be removed.
The store's part
These terms are between you and Minetek Systems Inc, not Apple or Google. The store is not responsible for the app, its support or any claim about it. If you installed Ruto from the App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your licence to use the app, and Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
Changes
If these terms change in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app's release notes. Continuing to use Ruto after that means you accept the new terms.
